Lymphatic Drainage & Herbal Medicine
Did you know that every human body has an extensive lymphatic system? Have you ever wondered what your lymphatic system does for you? We're passionate about detoxifying the body and providing our customers with the proper remedies and tools needed to care for their lymphatic system from the inside out!
Think of the lymphatic system as a network of highways running throughout your body, working to keep you healthy. Imagine a small network of roads that run alongside your blood vessels. These are your lymphatic vessels. The fluid in your lymph system acts as your body’s cleanup crew. I always explain to my patients that the lymph system is like a garbage collector for your body cells that produce waste and excess fluids. The lymphatic system collects this waste and fluid from tissues and sends it to the lymph nodes. These nodes are part of the cleaning system that filters out harmful substances like bacteria, viruses, and dead cells. The lymph nodes contain immune cells, or lymphocytes, that attack and destroy any harmful invaders caught in the lymph fluid. After the “cleanup,” the lymphatic system returns the purified fluid back to the bloodstream.
The lymphatic system is important because it plays a role in balancing fluid to help maintain the right amount in your body tissues. It also plays a role in immunity by defending your body against infections and diseases, as well as in detoxification by removing waste products and toxins from your body.
Medicinal herbs can support the lymphatic system in various ways, primarily by promoting detoxification, enhancing lymph flow, reducing inflammation, and boosting immune function. There are many herbs that support lymph health. They act in several different ways: detoxifying, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, blood-purifying, immune-boosting, lymphatic-stimulating, and adaptogenic. These herbs can be used in various forms, such as teas, tinctures, capsules, or topical applications.
Garden Root Remedy has several lymphatic herbal remedies. Our Lymphatic Drainage Tincture and Lymphatic Drainage Herbal Tea both support lymph drainage and act as blood purifiers and detoxifiers. My Lymphatic Drainage Salve is great to use to encourage lymphatic drainage with massage. Single tinctures are also available by special request.
Another way to help manage the lymphatic system is through dry brushing. This is easy to do and should be part of your wellness routine. Dry brushing is a technique that involves using a natural bristle brush to gently massage the skin in a specific pattern.
This practice is believed to have several benefits for the lymphatic system:
Stimulates Lymph Flow
Reduces Lymphatic Congestion
Exfoliates the Skin
Boosts Immune Function
How to properly dry brush is important to understand. Using a natural bristle brush with a long handle to reach all areas. Always brush towards the heart, starting from the extremities (feet and hands) and moving inward. Use gentle, circular motions or long, sweeping strokes. Perform dry brushing on dry skin, ideally before showering, to enhance exfoliation and stimulate the lymphatic system. Dry brush 2-3 times a week, adjusting frequency based on your skin's sensitivity and response. Remember to be gentle, avoid putting too much pressure, clean your brush regularly, and hydrate by drinking plenty of water after dry brushing.
In summary, dry brushing is a simple yet effective technique to stimulate the lymphatic system, promote detoxification, improve skin health, and boost overall immune function.
